What Omokboard Is
Omokboard is a free site where you can play 12 board games, including Omok, Chess, Alkkagi, and Yut Nori, right in your browser with nothing to install and no account to create. You can play the AI, take turns with someone next to you on one device, or send a room code and play online with a friend on another device.
Why I Built It
It started simply. The first version of Omokboard was a page I made to play a game of Omok with a friend, and since Omok was the first game, the site ended up being called Omokboard. Omok is also a game I've played a lot since I was a kid, at school and at home.
More games followed, like Connect 4, Chess, and Alkkagi, and today there are 12. Family, friends, and people I know use it, and some visitors find it through search. With my friends, it's mostly Omok and Alkkagi.
The Hardest Game to Build: Alkkagi
Of the 12 games, Alkkagi was the hardest to build. It's something I played on a Go board in the classroom during breaks as a kid, and the trickiest part of bringing it to a screen was friction: how far a marble slides before it stops.
In the first version, a marble lost only 1.6% of its speed per frame. That sounds small, but a full-power flick sent a marble sliding more than twice the width of the board. In June 2026 I changed it to 4% per frame, and now even the hardest shot stops just short of crossing the whole board. Stopping too fast and sliding too long both felt wrong, and finding the value in between was the hardest part.
